 “The CBL is the most important sports league to ever come to our area!”

 “It has been well documented that Elkhart was among the MOST DEVASTED areas of the country during this recent depression.  The CBL filled two important voids for our community during this time.  The first, obviously, is that it provided an inexpensive form of entertainment. In fact, all of the regular season games were free to attend.  The only event that required an admission fee was the All-Star game!  The second void that it filled is a little less obvious.  The league is constructed to create a pro-like environment for what are mostly amateur players.  Jamar Johnson, founder of the CBL, did an excellent job of making rules designed to create an exciting, fast-paced, action-packed game, where all of the players get equal playing time.  However, there was another element that drastically set this league apart from anything else that’s come along.  Jamar added a component that addressed self-development.  Players were required to attend weekly workshops that focused on business skills, organization, planning, and goal-setting.  The CBL went way beyond simply recreational activity, and actually provided a service its players by giving them tools to be successful in life.  Words alone can not express the necessity of life skills, especially in a struggling economy.  It is for this reason the CBL is the most important sports league to ever come to our area!  I’m so thankful to Jamar for the contribution he has made to our community.  Congratulations on a successful inaugural season!”
